STOP Suffering From “The Career Paradox”

As we speed towards the close of 2018, we could address the issues that exist in most of our lives and discuss how best to prioritize 2019 on topics like:

>> Health

>> Fitness

>> Relationships

>> Career

>> Money

We could think about the details for each…

>> What do you crave?

>> How do you want to feel?

>> What do you need to get out of?

>> What do you want to get into?

>> Et cetera…

We can easily identify what HURTS the most, site the gaps, and focus on one area to place in the #1 Top Spot and say:

This is my focus! How can I shorten the path to achieving a satisfying, positive outcome?

Okay, and then what? Where to begin?

>> Low hanging fruit?

>> Effective tactics to put in play?

Hmmm…

This reminds me of how I had always wanted to lose that annoying 10 lbs.

I’ve been at the gym 5-6 days a week for the past 20 years… seriously.

I live in New York City. I don’t have a car. I walk everywhere. I live an active lifestyle. Spin, weights, yoga, boot camp, Pilates, I ski 70+ days a year, scuba, all kinds of activity & adventure…

I’d been in decent shape for a while. And I thought I knew how to eat right.

But — BUT… that 10 lbs? Nope. Not happening.

And then, I reconnected with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and WOW — he had lost 45 lbs in 6 months with the help of a fitness coach he hired.

He raved about this dude — the awesome experience, how he felt, etc…

And, he looked AMAZING!

So, heck — I called the guy and set up a free consult.

His method was different. Almost counter intuitive.

And, his fees… they were SO OUT OF THE PARK. I was like — ahhh, right. C’mon. I can’t do that!

But, I REALLY wanted this change. And even though I was scared to invest the money and was worried I’d fail, I figured … if not now — WHEN?

I also knew one thing to be true: if I continued doing what I was doing, my result wouldn’t be any different from the past couple of decades. Which was NOT the result I wanted.

So, I stepped up and signed on.

Within two months, those 10 were gone. And so were 5 more. They’re still gone and it’s 7 months later.

And, now I feel AMAZING.

I LOVE eating the way he taught me to eat. He changed my fitness regiment too.

And listen, I thought I was eating the “right way” and I was “active” as hell.

I simply didn’t have the RIGHT METHOD in place to get me what I wanted.

And now, when I think back on that investment (which scared the hell out of me at the time) it resulted in exponential returns to my well being. Worth every penny and every ounce of energy.

Because, I NEVER would have been able to do it on my own. I know this.

Every single day I talk to people about their career goals and one thing is crystal clear to me: folks don’t have the RIGHT process in place to get them to *what’s next.*

And what’s more — they *don’t know what they want to do* to begin with.

These are successful people. Top performers. Emerging leaders. Senior-level leaders. Making money. Living a nice lifestyle.

And they are in PAIN.

They are STUCK.

Is this you?

>> You know you need a change.

>> You’ve been trying to get to a great *what’s next* for a month, two, three, six months—or perhaps it’s been a year, two or three.

>> You feel like you’re in a fog, you’re a bit “lost-at-sea”, you’re frustrated, your confidence is pretty close to shot, you’re desperate to stop the noise and do work you LOVE.

>> You’ve dusted off your resume — tormented over every word & punctuation mark, font style & size (one woman told me recently that she has 27 versions of her resume, another paid $3k to have someone write hers, all before she knew what roles she was even targeting…ahhh, that’s backwards, btw…)

>> You’ve perhaps also blasted your resume into the black hole of DOOM (the dreaded job boards) and heard crickets in return.

>> You’ve tried to discreetly discuss your new direction with folks in your network and when making new connections BUT you don’t really know what to say about what you want to do — because well, you simply just don’t KNOW what the heck you want to do.

>> You’re thinking you need to seek similar jobs to what you’re doing now or have done in the past, because you’re unclear about your transferable skills.

>> It goes on and on…

The problem is that you don’t know the *right things* to do in the *right sequence* and you’re suffering from “The Career Paradox.”

Perhaps it’s time to overcome what’s preventing you from driving a stake in the ground and breaking the cycle that keeps you STUCK in a pattern that you’re DESPERATE to break…
